2021 Curtis Media Center Solar Panels

2021 Solar on Curtis Media Center

Date: April 2021

Description: RESPC funded the installation of 60 panels to provide 25.2 kW (with 23.4 kW export) of solar energy on the roof of the Curtis Media Center, a new building for the Hussman School of Journalism and Media. These panels provide approximately 40% of the building’s energy, which decreases the building’s reliance on fossil fuels and help it operate using a cleaner and more sustainable form of energy, solar energy. The 60 solar panels have produced 18.4 MWh to date, saving over 32,000 pounds of CO2 from entering the atmosphere (the equivalent of planting 242 trees!)

Allocation amount: $98,588

Benefits to students and UNC:

  • Renewable energy
