Process and Application

Before reviewing the EFRP process and completing an application, please visit our Eligibility Page to ensure your laboratory qualifies for our program.  Qualifying labs may submit an application during any of the below application windows and be notified on their status by the associated selection date.  If your freezer need is urgent, the EFRP team has also developed an Emergency Fund. Click here for more details.

Funding Period Application Window Selection/ Notification Date
Winter Jan 18- Feb 28  March 7
Fall Sept 17 – Oct 30 November 7

Note that applications received outside a given application window will not be considered

We are aware that the purchase of freezers is a timely process, but in order to ensure that we are able to provide as many eligible labs a rebate as possible, participation in the EFRP requires a two-step process. If these guidelines are not followed we cannot guarantee a rebate.

  1. Download and complete the application form below in its entirety. Email this completed document as a PDF to RESPCFreezerRebate@gmail.com with the subject line “EFRP [Funding Period] Application”. In your email please copy rhsegal@email.unc.edu (2023-24 RESPC Co-Chair) and jsangani@unc.edu (2023-24 RESPC Co-Chair.) Your application will then be reviewed by the EFRP team after the application window closes and your laboratory will be informed of your status within one week.
  2. If approved for an instant rebate, laboratories will receive a confirmation email with instructions on how to properly submit a request for purchase through the University.

Typically 5-8 freezers will be granted during each application period. Priority is given to labs with older freezers, whose freezers are failing, or who desire to obtain their first freezer.
